Alanna, The First Adventure (Song of the Lioness) by Tamora Pierce
One of those series that just sucked me in.
For those of you who are looking for a YA fantasy novel – this definitely should be in your to-be-read pile.
Let’s talk Alanna—this chick’s got some serious guts. Picture a world where girls can’t be knights. What’s a girl with dreams of sword-swinging greatness and epic adventures to do? Easy—she throws on some trousers, pretends she’s her brother, and dives headfirst into knight training. Talk about making your own rules!
Alanna’s not your typical damsel in distress. She’s got a fire in her belly and a stubborn streak a mile wide. Pierce really nails it with this character — totally relatable and a breath of fresh air.
Now, about the world of Tortall — Tamora Pierce paints a vivid picture. The magic system’s cool, and each character feels like someone you’d want to grab a drink with. The writing? It grabs you from the start and doesn’t let go. I was hooked, line and sinker.
Action, suspense, drama—it’s all there, folks. The pacing kept me flipping pages, and I was glued till the very end.
Highly recommend this book to all fantasy lovers out there! If you’ve already read this series, The Immortal’s series by Tamora Pierce is just as good and set in the same world.
